Moving halfway across the country, from a small space to a larger home, with an interior style unlike anything my husband and I had originally envisioned, seemed both exciting and daunting. Before making the final move to Des Moines, we knew none of our current furnishings would blend with the interior style of our new home. Unsure about how best to furnish our home, my husband suggested Laura Beeler, a designer at By Design that he had met one afternoon while looking at furniture on his own. My initial reaction was, “nah, we can figure this out on our own; this will be fun.” But my husband convinced me to “just check it out” with him.
Walking through the store I quickly realized my husband’s taste and mine weren’t completely aligned. Laura to the rescue! She took time to get to know us as a couple; where we’d come from, places we liked to visit and what our hobbies were. Laura asked open-ended questions to understand what colors, textures, and patterns appealed to us. She pulled fabrics, showed us pictures, and various furniture pieces, asking each of us what we liked and disliked about what she was showing us. She was very inquisitive and patient. Through numerous meetings both in the store and at our home, she was able to help us select pieces we loved, that were a reflection of both my husband and my taste. Laura made the process so easy and fun!
