Karen and Jerry were recent new customers at by Design, and I was lucky to have the opportunity to work with them on their Johnston home. It soon turned out that they were building right next door to long-time personal friends. Even better! It added a little pressure maybe, but frankly I take each job very seriously due to the investment my clients make when buying furniture. They place a lot of trust in me, and I don’t want to let them down.

I learned quickly that Karen and Jerry were all about having family and friend’s over. So… they wanted the home to be cozy and inviting. Working off their plans and sketching I learned that Jerry wanted not only a sofa -but four chair’s in the main room.
We started with a transitional stripe for two Custom Loft chairs from Precedent that added that pattern we needed. Then we added our Vanguard Custom Series sofa and two Custom series chairs in a beautiful neutral. These pieces are part of Vanguard’s Make It Your’s program. The hand crafted process allows us to bring you one of the broadest selections of personalized furniture. The possibilities are endless. They wanted a large ottoman and I knew exactly what to show them: my favorite – the Micheal Wiess Wayland ottoman. I think it was the perfect piece to compete this room. We can choose the shape, the size, the fabric or leather. Then we specify a metal or wood frame. I Love this ottoman. And they did too! (Louie the dog loves the ottoman, and he’s no pushover).
Moving into the dining room, you’ll see a marvelous Nuevo live-edge table with a seared oak finish and stailess steel legs. It’s an incredible combination of both organic and sharply contemporary shapes and materials. with Moving on to the dining table, its stainless steel legs and seared oak from Nuevo instantly added to the space. We also added beautiful neutral swivel counter chairs to the kitchen.
In the bedroom, we went with warm grays on an upholstered Socrates bed from Vanguard Furniture. It’s sophisticated and comfortable. Karen wanted to enjoy the view from her bedroom window – and you can see that it is lovely. So we added an (unexpected and fun!) Aubree daybed from Norwalk with the pop of coral color that the room needed. An unique signature item like this adds so much to a room. It also makes a wonderful reading spot.
In the office we added a BDI bar cart and the Tristan sofa from American Leather. Their contemporary lines and high quality bring our design ideas from the rest of the house into the office. And make it such a cozy room!
