New and Neutral Design Project

My first major project at by Design was updating a living room for a really great client. Candy’s room had beautiful hardwood floors to work with and large windows filling one wall. While she was ready for a new look, she still hoped to coordinate the fresh style with several of her current pieces along with flowing into the adjoining dining room since her floorplan was an open concept. In front of the windows, stood a round table where her family and friends enjoyed playing games and by the fire were two chairs where she could sit and drink coffee. These features were two things she definitely wanted to keep in the new design.

The architectural detail that would make a major impact in her space was the fireplace flanked by two bookshelves. This piece would not only be a focal point for the architectural interest but as a place where she could display a very personal style by incorporating artwork. From this concept, we agreed that choosing a gray and natural color scheme was a perfect fit. The furniture would look beautiful but her artwork would pop against a neutral palette.

Vision Board

With a new color scheme and a modern vision in mind, we started by finding a few pieces she found comfortable. The American Leather sofa was a new modern look and also spoke of comfort needed for this cozy living room. We replaced the two chairs by the fireplace with two recliners, that only added to the comfort with a place to kick up your feet and relax. When choosing fabrics, we stuck to the color scheme but added in subtle textures that look and feel cozy. To really make the room come together, we added a rug that coordinated with the color schemes of grays and cream, bringing in a new interesting texture and complemented the rest of the design of the room. It was so much fun designing this room and it came together beautifully!
