Tracy stopped in to BY DESIGN with a mission to refurnish her living room – she is working on remodeling projects throughout her Windsor Heights home.
Functional Considerations
One challenge of her living room was that it has a split focal point. This issue is not unusual! Her fireplace is on one end and the built in bookcase which holds the television is on the other. So how do we design a floor plan to work in two directions?
Our solution? We created a flexible plan using Stephanie swivel gliders in front of the hearth. this by creating a seating area in front of the hearth. The Stephanie swivel gliders are perfect because they can swivel toward the fireplace… the large windows… or the television. Their cozy tweed fabric in charcoal offers a nice contrast against the limestone fireplace.
The Louise sectional gives us a lot of configuration options. We curved it into the room to help the room feel less long and narrow. (This also gives extra seating).
Style Considerations
We chose a neutral performance fabric for the sectional and brought in some colorful pillows that draw on the colors from Tracy’s existing art.
The Sally swivel chair looks great in a rich brown leather and adds some warmth to the room.
The reclaimed wood coffee table creates an interesting color and texture contrast with mid-century style lamps.
The lightly patterned rug ties together the grays and browns creating a versatile base for the room.
