Bold Choices + an Awesome Sense of Style

How one Des Moines couple discovered their personal sense of interior design style… and the choices they made in their new home.

Introducing the new Melhus home! Brad & Casey just purchased the cutest Beaverdale home! They are returning customers to BY DESIGN so they knew they were in good hands when looking to furnish their 3rd home with us.

Colorado Drum Coffee Table

We had so much fun designing their space with the Scandinavian interior design they are drawn towards. We loved the Colorado Drum Concrete coffee & end table. These concrete pieces adopt alluring shapes as modern geometrics play with nature’s petal form. The intricately etched, subtly colored material is wonderful.

Dante Hand-Loomed Rug

We took their room to new heights with the eye-opening and dynamic Dante hand-loomed area rug. A dramatically bold choice, with a thoughtful and innovative interpretation of traditional rug design. What is more, it is a perfect contrast to the Colorado Drum table.

For their seating we chose cream-colored upholstery which fastens to parawood framing by trend-forward buckles. Honoring a mid-century design, with a throwback feel to a cutting-edge look.

We put this room together with a gorgeous color pallet of rust, powder blue, rose, soft yellow and black. A pallet of six colors in Des Moines interior design? You bet. To complete their look they painted their interior brick fireplace in a pitch black! That gives it a amazing timeless look. Then we added European Skull Mount. DRAMA!

I absolutely love this style for this young couple. I’m beyond thankful that they trusted me to help make their house a home!
