Furnishing a historic home can be daunting! How do you bring modern comfort to the home without completely clashing with its original charm? Jessica’s client, Melinda, faced that challenge. How do we honor her lovely craftsman era home in Des Moines?
The client wanted a space that was comfortable for relaxing with a book, watching TV, or visiting with friends. The resulting design is cozy, functional and gives an update to the historic home.
The furniture layout makes the most of the room’s square footage without feeling overcrowded.
The Louise Collection by Norwalk Furniture allows for a custom sectional configuration to fit the room perfectly. Paired with a Pouf ottoman, it’s the perfect spot to kick back.
Furniture Update in Historic Home
The Stephanie and Sally swivel chairs create seating that can pivot between the room’s split focal points. The green tweed fabric adds some beautiful texture next to the original green tiles surrounding the fireplace.
The Monaco media cabinet in a dark finished ash balances the room with some visual weight that contrasts the existing wood work.
Add in some custom pillows in fun bird and polka dot patterns for a little whimsy to round out the space.
Overall the room is warm and welcoming. We’ve accomplished the goal of introducing modern comfort in a craftsman home. Jessica’s client is thrilled with the results!
