Great Room for the Whole Family

Jessica’s client was looking to replace some old furniture in their great room space when she came to BY DESIGN. She fell in love with the Milford sofa which turned out to be the perfect scale for their large, open living room in their Urbandale home.

The Inspiration:

Jessica made a house call and put together a complete design plan including sofas, pillows, ottomans, a rug, chairs, and an accent table. The floor plan allowed for a symmetrical design which makes the room feel like a natural center of the home.

Floor Plan

The client’s open floor plan allowed for ample seating for the whole family. The goal was to create a comfortable relaxed lounge space with durable fabrics and finishes. The black and gray covers create a neutral yet interesting backdrop for a pop of accent color. The flow into their dining room and kitchen shows off their existing red counter stools. From there it only made sense to include a little red accent as pillows on the sofas.

The metal frame shelf unit also adds some height and contrast which balances the stone fireplace beautifully. There is more to new great room furniture than just upholstery.

Comfort and style are important in this space so the Quinn ottoman is a great addition and perfect scale with the sofas. A cozy rug with lots of texture is the perfect amount of softness to support the rest of the room.
