When Sally set out to find new furniture for her condo in Urbandale, she wasn’t expecting to find any interesting options due to her smaller living space. She quickly realized that would not be the case when she stopped into BY DESIGN for the first time. Jessica helped her create a design that was practical and fun!
Sally’s goals were to maximize her square footage while making sure it was practical for the way she used her space. She needed pieces that were comfortable as well as durable for when her young grandkids stop by.
Smaller spaces mean floor plans are even more essential to be sure we aren’t choosing pieces that are too large for the room. When Sally stopped into BY DESIGN, she was drawn to the unique angled loveseat of the Linkin sectional. So Jessica created a custom configuration for a shorter sectional that wouldn’t overpower the living room’s overall footprint. This creates a nice focal point opposite the fireplace. The Sally swivel chair is an extra cozy addition next to the fireplace. This layout also allows easy access to the greenhouse window positioned in the back corner of the room.
The aesthetic of the room is warm and natural with subtle pops of color to add a little whimsy!
The results are exactly that: warm and inviting! The subtle colors in the rug, swivel chair, and pillows flow so seamlessly with the neutral sectional and small leather ottomans. The wheat style doors on the custom Elements media console also add to the natural aesthetic. New lamps also bring an added layer of warmth.
The Results
Sally’s worries of a boring living space were gone and she loves how the room came together! It just goes to show that a small space doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on design!
