Most of the projects we work on are understandably residential, but we do have the occasional commercial business project as well. Jessica was recently asked to design a lobby for a client.
She received a call from a principal owner of a property management company. The company manages apartments and business locations in West Glen Town Center in West Des Moines. He was interested in having a new design drawn up for the lobby. The space serves commercial offices and the apartments above.
His main concern was that the lobby was a little dated and over-furnished. He wanted to update the paint colors and simplify the seating area.
The bistro tables were not being utilized and therefore were eliminated from the new furniture plan.
The new lobby design plan includes a simple set up of 4 chairs arranged around a circular coffee table with a round rug centering the grouping. The goal was to create a sophisticated yet casual setting that gives a positive first impression when entering the building.
The simplified lobby design is a mix of organic and modern elements that play well into the West Glen area aesthetic.
The multi-colored rug, black leather chairs, and light wood tones play well off the new neutral wall colors. (Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray & Gauntlet Gray) The wall colors and reduced furnishings make each of the focal point elements (the wall mural, light fixture, and seating area) truly pop – without the space feeling cluttered or overwhelming.
All together, the lobby design gives a welcoming entrance to the building for both commercial clients and apartment residents.
