One Way to Make That Room Uniquely Yours

Try Mixing Contrasting Elements in Your Room Design.

Yin and yang. Sweet and sour.  Symmetry and Asymmetry. Mixing contrasts works so well in so many contexts. And interior design is no different. In fact, it may be a required aspect in a great room. You can use contrasts to:

  • Surprise & delight with the unexpected
  • Add warmth to a cool palette
  • Add dimension and depth by adding texture
  • Surprise with a sense of humor
  • Make your room truly personal

Take a look at the room pictured above. The Kiley sofa is an extremely contemporary design with it’s large scale square arms and back and straight-as-a-string lines. And you couldn’t get a more traditional chair than the Genevieve shown here. The fabric and finish on the Genevieve are unexpectedly casual and help bridge the gap between the two styles. The room continues to surprise with a traditional ball-foot chest, a contemporary cocktail table… not to mention a variety of accents and accessories. Pretty fun.

Here is a great example of mixing contemporary and classic design in one room. The result is a very upscale, yet very livable room. Oh, and did I mention sophisticated? Absolutely.
