Current Passion: Dark and Moody Rooms

We can’t stop thinking about dark and moody rooms this fall. They are so rich, luxurious and dramatic…you want to cozy up into these beautiful rooms and never leave. Fall is the perfect time to embark on this color palette – it feels so good right now to embrace a dark color scheme with the days getting shorter and colder.

Here are some ways to create the perfect dark and moody space in your home.

Paint Colors

Paint is the first way to dive into the dark and moody look. Dark green, dark blue, dark red, dark eggplant….there are so many great colors you could try.  The key is to use paint with a black/gray undertone and keep it dramatic.

Velvet furniture in a dark room

A perfect counterpart for a dark rich paint color is a velvet furniture piece. Bring in a tonal sofa or chair, or a complementary color. Keep the room modern and classic by choosing slim furniture rather than overstuffed pieces.

Interesting wall treatments

Painting your walls dark green/blue/eggplant is not the only way to get into this trend. Wallpaper and curtains and molding are other ways to bring interest to these dark rooms. Using wall treatments to bring the drama gives the room more depth as well.

Add glamour and depth

A simple dark and moody palette is a wonderful thing…but we also love the rooms that have more going on. Rich leather, grand chandeliers, and luxurious gold adornments…these accents bring this trend to the next level. Layer in fur throws for even more drama.
