A new classic modern space

My dear friend Kristi moved to Sioux Falls recently, and even though I’m so sad she moved, I’m so happy she let us help her design her new living room!

Kristi and her husband Jim ended up buying a home with a more modern vibe than their current home, so their furniture didn’t translate to the new space very well. It’s a brand new, beautiful home with lovely finishes, so she wanted some classic, modern and kid-friendly furniture! Their floor is a rich multi-tone hardwood and their fireplace is a great light stacked stone, so we had a great palette to work with.

Our first step was to put together an idea board to figure out what kind of sleek, modern furniture she was drawn to. She sent us a couple inspiration photos from Houzz and Pinterest and we were able to put together some of our favorite pieces based on the new style she was going for.

After Kristi and Jim reviewed our ideas and narrowed the pieces down to their very favorites, we created a floor plan. Based on our measurements and how the room functioned, we found three different layouts that could work. Kristi and Jim had a sectional in the basement, so they were looking for something a bit different and more put together for their open living/dining/kitchen area.

We needed pieces that would suit their family of five, allow them to look at the fireplace, TV, or be in the conversation with folks in the kitchen. After sitting on a lot of different pieces in our showroom, Kristi decided on two light grey Lawrence sofas, two blue Liam chairs, and a rich blue leather Pouf ottoman.

We found some beautiful and unique pillow fabric that ties all the colors of the room together, and a wonderful abstract rug that really grounds the space in the most interesting way.

It was so fun to work with Kristi and Jim on this project – we’re thrilled with how pretty and cool this space turned out! Thanks for being such wonderful friends (and clients)!!
